When advanced medical diagnostics and procedures are required, the remote optometrist and patient will design a personalized care plan. Some management can be completed through Remote Optometry, while other patients may require referrals to an onsite optometrist, local ophthalmologists, or other indicated healthcare providers. All care and referrals are coordinated and maintained by the remote optometrist supported by Remote Optometry.

The Remote Optometry system provides remote doctors with the capability of displaying any aspect of the remote eye exam on a screen in front of the patient. During the live patient-doctor health consultation, patients are encouraged to ask the doctor any questions regarding their ocular health and how it relates to their systemic health and new refractive prescriptions. The patient and doctor will work in tandem to create a customized treatment plan including follow-up care. Patient education is the most crucial element to proper eye care and can improve adherence to a prescribed plan.
